So I think my plan backfired.
I learned about the whole tradition of the Elf on the Shelf today. I thought it'd be a cool thing to start with Conner. I should have known after reading this hilarious blog post that it'd be not what I expected.
So I picked this up for him today at Borders. The whole tradition behind it is each morning the elf is supposed to be hiding somewhere in the house. The kid has fun finding it and then has to be well-behaved during the month since the elf reports back to Santa on the kid's behavior. The kid can also tell his Christmas list to the elf and that's also relayed back.
With Conner's behavior *ahem* issues recently, I thought this thing might actually work. I had planned on hiding the elf tomorrow morning to start off December with a bang.
So I brought up the subject of Santa sending out his elves to children's houses tonight after I read his bedtime story. That kids would just wake up and there the elf would be. Probably not the wisest choice of words for a near 5-year-old. He looks at me with a look of horror and said, "He's going to be sitting right there in my rocking chair staring at me?!" So then it went from in the chair to peering at him from the window...none of those being anywhere near what I said!
So I told him that the elf would remain downstairs, probably near the Christmas tree. Poor kid is still awake in his room and I heard him lift his blinds to look out the window. BAHAHAHAHA.
Tomorrow morning should be interesting.
